Janessa Miller was born and raised in New York City. As a child, she has always maintained a passion for supporting other children. As she grew older, she decided to complete her studies in the healthcare field obtaining her Associates degree in Medical Administration in 2009 and her Bachelor’s degree in Health Services Administration in 2011. Following college, she returned back to her community and began to work within the field of education. Working within the Harlem school system, she learned early on how disadvantaged the children of her community were. Poverty, crime, drug abuse, and murders were common practice and children continued to slip through the cracks. In 2013, Janessa began working as an intervention specialist. There she was able to develop and maintain connections with those disadvantaged children. Many times, they were misunderstood. During her sessions with the students, Janessa came to learn that children were falling behind in their studies for reasons that impacted them outside of the classroom. Many students were unfortunately tasked with the responsibility of looking after their younger siblings and had limited food, clothing, and overall support. This was eye-opening for her. In 2016, She moved to Connecticut with her family. She then took on the role of paraprofessional throughout many school districts in the Hartford County and noticed the same patterns. Unfortunately, as a Paraeducator, she was limited in the amount of support she could provide to these children and their families. Becoming overwhelmed with such limitations, Janessa decided to transition into the field of social work. In 2020-21 she experienced 3 traumatic family losses. Her grandmother, daughter and grandfather. During this time, her life began to unfold. As a devout Christian believer, she leaned in on her spirituality, family and support systems to help her get her through her mental torment. Overcoming depression, regaining her mental strength and building back her confidence gave her a new lease on life. It has sense became her mission to continue to inspire, enlighten and support people who find it harder to overcome life’s obstacles. In 2021, she became a family support specialist. As an FSS, she was able to step outside of the classroom and into the homes of the families in need providing encouragement, mental health advocacy, case management, parenting support, school advocacy, self-motivation strategies, and community resources. As an FSS, she worked closely with DCF to focus on eliminating child abuse and neglect. It was during this role that she continued to develop upon her true passion with a deeper desire to innovate through the development of her own business. Utilizing motivational speaking, open dialogue, introspection, reassurance, accountability, and transparency, Janessa will continue in her mission to combat stigmas in underprivileged communities one day at a time.
